City to get new stadium

VIJAYAWADA, JULY 24. The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) will construct a stadium with facilities to hold international cricket matches in the 20 acres of land it purchased at Amaravati Township near Mangalagiri, within five years, according to the ACA secretary, N.Venkata Rao.

Speaking to reporters after the ACA general body meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Venkata Rao said the stadium would be constructed at a cost of Rs 15 crore. He said ACA preferred conducting the next two international matches at Visakhapatnam where it constructed a stadium with excellent facilities spending crores of rupees. Asked whether international matches would be conducted in Vijayawada at all in the future, he said matches would be conducted in the city and they would be conducted at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium until such time the new stadium was ready.

The association honorary president and Director General of Police, S.R.Sukumara, released a souvenir brought out by the association to mark its golden jubilee celebrations.
