More Congress leaders seek removal of Srinivas

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 24 . Yet another group of Congress leaders have shot off a letter to Digvijay Singh, the newly appointed General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Andhra Pradesh, seeking the removal of D. Srinivas as the president of the AP Congress Committee (APCC).

Believed to be close followers of Mr. Srinivas until recently, office-bearers of the APCC are learnt to have referred to a spate of allegations against him and appealed to the high command to replace him, especially in view of the membership drive to be undertaken soon.

The charges

Sources in the party said the leaders spoke of the "dubious" role played by Mr. Srinivas in the selection of candidates in the first phase of elections, in the alliance with the TRS, and the way he had "mislead" the AICC.
