Visakhapatnam
By Our Staff Reporter
VISAKHAPATNAM, JULY 25. The new initiatives launched by the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (VMC) through Subhram and Janachaitanya programmes for involving local residents to ensure better upkeep of sanitation are evoking good response. The programmes, kicked off as part of `Operation Clean,' are aimed at ensuring daily sweeping of roads, regular cleaning of drains and door-to-door garbage collection and centralised disposal.
Janachaitanya a hit
According to a VMC spokesman Janachaitanya programme had become a big hit. Under the scheme, the VMC gives a tricyle to the RWA along with four plastic bins free of cost at the rate of one for every 250 household. The RWA has to engage a rickshaw-puller for door-to-door collection of garbage and domestic waste at a specified time regularly. The VMC contributes Rs. 600 per month towards the salary of the worker and the RWA has to contribute an equal amount or more by collecting Rs. 5 or Rs. 10 per household every month.
