Last date for IGNOU courses

NEW DELHI JULY 25. The last date for admission to the July 2004 session of the Bachelor's Degree Programme in Arts, Commerce, Science, Computer Applications, Tourism Studies, Library and Information Science and Social Work and Master's degree in English, Hindi, History, Political Science, Commerce, Library Science and Tourism Management of Indira Gandhi National Open University is July 31.

According to an IGNOU release, the University shall hold an entrance test for the January 2005 session of B.Ed., MBS, Post Graduate Diploma in Financial, Operations and Marketing Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management on August 1 in examination centres all over the country.

`Stree Shakti' camp held

NEW DELHI JULY 25. Women from economically weaker sections of the society today got their health check-up done at the "Stree Shakti" camps organised across nine districts of the Capital. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, who went on an inspection round of the camp, said her Government would provide free eye check-up to all women visiting such camps in the future.

She also instructed the department officials concerned to draw up a plan for holding free eye camps at places where "Stree Shakti" camps are held and appealed to women to be more conscious of their health and proactively seek medical help whenever required.

Hormone therapy for menopause

NEW DELHI JULY 25. Dr. Amose Pines, Director of the Menopause Clinic in Israel and the President elect of the International Menopause Society visited the Capital on Sunday. "The risk in the commonly prescribed aspirin therapy and hormone therapy for menopause is similar and minute," said the visiting expert at a lecture he delivered here. "There is no real alternative for hormone therapy in the treatment of menopausal symptoms," he added.

Delegation meets ministers

NEW DELHI JULY 25. A delegation led by Ashok Singh, Chairman, Linguistic Minority Cell of the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee today called on the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Jaipal Reddy and the Union Human Resources Development Minister, Arjun Singh, and submitted a memorandum seeking for allotment of Rajya Sabha members/MLCs/Chairman/Board of directors in the State and Centre to linguistic minorities.

Stating that the linguistic groups hold an important position in society, the delegation called for 10 per cent reservation to linguistic minorities in all the fields.
