Protest against police action sparks tension

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 25. Tension prevailed in front of the Tiruvotriyur police station in north Chennai today after a group of persons protested against the police action bringing a person to the station for interrogation in connection with a murder case.

Though officers said no untoward incident was reported, the development created panic in the area as a crowd gathered outside the station. Trouble began when Venkateswaran of Tiruvotriyur was brought to the police station in connection with the murder of one Ravi about two weeks ago.

His relatives and neighbours demanded that Venkateswaran be sent back home immediately. The police told the crowd that he was brought only for a routine investigation and asked them to leave. But they did not disperse. They left after he was let off.
