This Day That Age
The States Reorganisation Commission, which has been touring the South, has during the past ten weeks covered nearly ten thousand miles and examined 2,000 people. So far the Commission has received 6,000 memoranda. Some of the representations, together with their annexures, were so bulky that they had to be sent by railway parcels. Mr. Fazl Ali, Chairman of the Commission, Mr. K.M. Panikkar, member, and Mr. P.C. Chaudhri, Secretary of the Commission, are now in Delhi on a routine visit. Pandit H.N. Kunzru, another member of the Commission, is expected to return to Delhi shortly. So far the Commission has visited Gujarat, Maharashtra, Travancore-Cochin, Karnatak, Malabar, South Canara, Tamil Nad, Coorg and Hyderabad areas. The Commission expects to conclude its visits to Vidarbha (Berar) and possibly Andhra before the end of August. In Hyderabad State alone, the Commission visited eight district headquarters.
