Kozhikode
By Our Special Correspondent
KOZHIKODE, JULY 26. The Kerala Private School Managers Association (Aided) today sought financial assistance from Sarva Shiksha Abhayan fund for rebuilding school buildings. At a meeting held here today the association welcomed the Government decision to end the practice of thatching school buildings in view of the fire at devastated a school in Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu but pointed out that since schools were getting only a meagre amount as maintenance grants it would not be possible for their managers to set up fire-proof roofs. It appealed to the Government to release more funds from SSA so that thatched building could be provided fire-proof roofs. Of the nearly 3,000 private schools in Kozhikode district, nearly 750 had thatched roof. SSA funds are available to all schools in most other States but in Kerala it is not available to aided schools.
