TIRUNELVELI, JULY 26. The Puthiya Tamizhagam president, K. Krishnasamy, today escaped a bomb attack with minor injuries at Thentral Nagar near here this afternoon. He sustained injuries below the right eye, left wrist, left elbow, stomach and right thigh, apparently caused by splinters. The Toyota Qualis van by which he travelled was badly damaged. Dr. Krishnasamy was returning to his party office after appearing in a court here in connection with the case of murder of Manjolai tea estate supervisor, Antony Muthu, in 1997. The organising secretary, Velsamy, and the driver, N. Selvaraj, were also injured. After being administered first-aid in the Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital, he was shifted to a nursing home. Dr. Krishnasamy appeared before Fast Track Court I, where deposition of witnesses in the murder case was listed for the day. Security was beefed up in the court, as Anthony Muthu's wife, daughter and sister-in-law and a security guard of the tea estate were to depose as prosecution witnesses. When the proceedings were adjourned for lunch, Dr. Krishnasamy, cited as one of the 11 accused, left for his party office. "As our vehicle reached the Fort of Praise prayer hall on the Tirunelveli Tuticorin highway around 2.40 p.m., a group of unidentified persons, standing on both sides of the road, hurled two country bombs, one at the driver and the other at me. They also lobbed two bombs on the rear side of the van," he told The Hindu . Eight persons Shiva, Suresh, Lakshmanan, Kannan, Shenbagam, Thangavel, Muthpandi and Shakti were taken into custody reportedly from Ramaiyanpatti near here. Three unexploded bombs and six sickles were confiscated.
