Thirualluvar's statue in Bangalore opposed
By Our Staff Correspondent
BIDAR,
JULY 26.
The pro-Kannada campaigner and former Chairman of the Kannada Development Authority, Chandrashekar Patil, has opposed demands such as making Tamil the second official language in the State and installation of the statue of Thiruvalluvar in Bangalore.
The demands were made at the World Tamil Conference in Bangalore on Sunday.
It would be absurd if Tamil was made the second language, he said and added that all those living in Karnataka should learn Kannada.
In fact, Kannada organisations have been demanding that education in Kannada medium should be made compulsory at the primary school level, "Champa," as Prof. Patil is known, said.
He was delivering a lecture on "Kannada: land and culture", organised by the Kannada Sahitya Parishat and the BVB college in Bidar on Monday.
