KOCHI, JULY 26. The first death anniversary of the late Congress leader, George Eden, was observed by his family and party leaders on Monday. The former KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, visited Eden's family members in the morning. A public meeting held at the E.M.S. Memorial Town Hall in the afternoon was inaugurated by Mr. Muraleedharan. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Eden was able to share friendship with all kinds of people cutting across political differences. Mr. Muraleedharan pointed out that the decision of the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre to stall the privatisation of the Fertilizers and Chemicals Travancore would have gladdened Eden if he were alive, since he had always stood against the privatisation of public sector units. The senior Congress leader, Henry Austen, the KPCC vice-president, A.C. Jose, the Congress leaders, P.P. Thankachan, M.I. Shanawaz and Benny Behanan and M. Venugopal, and the Ernakulam District Panchayat president, K.B. Mohammedkutty, also spoke. The District Congress Committee president, K.P. Dhanapalan, presided.
