Convict attempts suicide

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 26 . A 40-year-old convict, Chacko (prisoner no: 5547), at the Central Prison here climbed on top of the third block of the prison and threatened to commit suicide by jumping down. The incident occurred at around 2-30 p.m. The police and fire force were rushed to the spot. An official from the Poojappura police station persuaded him to come down. Chacko complied by around 3-15 p.m.

Pedestrian run over

A pedestrian was killed and another injured, when a utility vehicle lost control and ran them down at Kottamam, at about 8-30 a.m. on Monday.

Maniyan (50) of Plavilapotta, Kottamam, Parasuvaikkal, near Neyyattinkara died soon after he was brought to the Medical College hospital. The body has been kept in the mortuary. Babu (52), who sustained serious injuries, has been admitted in the hospital.
