NEW DELHI, JULY 26. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has decided to effect a 900 per cent increase in parking charges for cars and two-wheelers in its area from September 1. Similarly, monthly charges for these parking lots will also see a steep hike. The 100-odd parking lots have been categorised into A, B and C groups according to the demand for parking space. While 35 parking lots in and around Connaught Place, Dilli Haat, Yashwant Place, Chanakya Cinema and INA Market have been placed in the top category, those around government and private offices are in a lower category, according to a statement issued by the Council after its monthly meeting held today. For Category A parking lots, the current charges for cars are Rs.10. However, the hiked charges will be Rs.10 for first two hours followed by Rs.10 for every subsequent hour for the next three hours. After five hours, a car owner will have to pay a whopping Rs.100. For two-wheelers, the rates will be Rs.5 and Rs.50 with the similar time schedule as for cars. Here, the monthly parking charges will also be hiked from Rs.300 per month to Rs.1,250 for cars and from Rs.200 per month to Rs.600 for two-wheelers. For Category B and C parking lots, which will cover areas like Bengali Market, Pandara Road, Sarojini Nagar, Khan Market, Malcha Marg, India Gate, Supreme Court, High Court and auditoria, the new rates for cars will be revised from Rs.10 to Rs.10 for first four hours, Rs.30 for 4-8 hours and Rs.50 for beyond 8 hours. Similarly, for two-wheelers the new rates will be Rs.5, Rs.10 and Rs.25 as against the present uniform rate of Rs.5. Again the monthly rates have been revised to Rs.700 and Rs.400 for car and two-wheelers respectively.
