This Day That Age
The All-India Congress Committee concluded its Ajmer session on July 26 after passing the official resolutions and a couple of non-official resolutions. Mr. Nehru, in his concluding address, stressed the need for China being represented at the United Nations. He told those who argued that Formosa represented China that Formosa could no more represent China than the Andaman Islands could represent the three hundred and sixty million people of India. He called upon Congressmen to work hard to explain to the people and implement the resolutions passed by the AICC, but "not to take it easy and rest." "Excuse my saying so," he said, adding, "Aram haram hai". "For centuries we were toys in the hands of others. Now we have become participants in the world arena. We do something about our fate, but we also do things which influence the destiny of the rest of the world. The world is watching India with interest. This is because what she does and what she does not has its effects on the world. We have taken a big responsibility in Indo-China. As soon as I go back to Delhi, I have to take up the matter. We have to prepare for it. We have to discuss things with Canada, Poland, France and the three States of Indo-China. It is a big work. Our strength lies in the people's confidence in us."
