dated July 28, 1954: Brahmaputra in spate

High floods in Dibrugarh subdivision of Upper Assam, caused by the rain-swollen Brahmaputra and its tributaries and the Dihang have submerged eleven revenue areas in about 300 villages, causing acute hardship to the people and damaging paddy crops. The Brahmaputra has burst its southern bank and flooded the northern and western parts of Dibrugarh town. Some of the main thoroughfares are under one to three feet deep water. Lawns and compounds of several Government buildings have been inundated.
