NEW DELHI, JULY 27. Thirtysix children from across the country have been chosen for the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievements, announced by the Human Resource Development Ministry. The recipients are in the age group 4-15 years and have shown exceptional achievements in the fields of academics, art, culture and sports.
Gold medal
The Gold Medal for the year 2003 will go to Master Sachin Dattatreya Vekoli of Maharashtra for his achievement in the field of computers. The other 35 children selected for silver medals are: Nadia Rehman from the Andaman and Nicobar Islands (academics and essay writing), Pallabi Parasar from Assam (table-tennis), Jayajyoti Baruah from Assam (boxing), S. Divya Tej from Andhra Pradesh (academics and computer), Thati Prashyusha from Andhra Pradesh (martial arts), Kishan Kumar Krishnan from Bihar (martial arts), Kumar Satyam from Bihar (chess), Aniket Anand from Bihar (arts) and Ajeetesh Sandhu from Chandigarh (golf). Tanvi Shukla from Chhattisgarh (drawing and painting), Saatvik Agarwal from Delhi (space science, computer science and general science), Bharadwaj Mohan Iyer from Goa (culture and academic), Ambrish Kumar Pithadiya from Gujarat (mountaineering), Niral Joshi from Gujarat (education and adventure) and Neha Bansal from Haryana (table-tennis). Arna Kamal from Jammu and Kashmir (swimming), Daniyal Masoom from Jammu and Kashmir (roller skating), Arya A.R. from Kerala (painting), Basavaraj Shankar Umarani from Karnataka (drawing and painting), Sukham Priyananda Singh from Manipur (sports), Wahengban Nganthoi Devi from Manipur (sports and arts), Sonal Sisodia from Madhya Pradesh (swimming) and Mohammad Azharuddin Khilji from Madhya Pradesh (athletic). Sheeel Raikar from Maharashtra (academic), Selvi M.Desh from Pondicherry (academic and yoga), Jyoti Maheshwari from Rajasthan (academic, dance and painting), Kreeti Saxena from Rajasthan (academic), Tania Bhattacharya from Tripura (painting, swimming and sports), Aarthi Mangala from Tamil Nadu (magic and music), D. Atshaya from Tamil Nadu (recitation), Shivani Gosain from Uttaranchal (para-gliding) and Sohini Guha Roy from West Bengal (music). The National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement was instituted in 1996 to give recognition to children with extraordinary abilities in the field of arts, culture, sports and academics.
