Kohli to be produced in Punjab court

By Our Special Correspondent

KOLKATA, JULY 27. Escorted by the Punjab police, Maninderpal Singh Kohli, prime suspect in the case of the rape and murder of British teenager, Hannah Foster, was flown to Delhi from Bagdogra airport in West Bengal today. He will be produced in a court in Kharadh in Punjab tomorrow in connection with a passport forgery case registered against him in that State, sources said.

He was arrested by the Darjeeling police in Panighata near the Indo-Nepal border on July 15, ending a 16-month hunt for him by the British and the Indian police since the body of Hannah Foster had been found two days after she had been missing from her home in Southampton in the United Kingdom on March 14 last year.

Mr. Kohli spent the last few months in Kalimpong where he worked as a volunteer with the local unit of the Red Cross Society under a false name.

Transit remand petition

Orders to hand over Mr. Kohli who was lodged in the Kalimpong Subsidiary Correctional Home, were issued by the sub-divisional judicial magistrate, Kalimpong, yesterday after a petition for transit remand was moved by the Punjab Police and a production warrant submitted.

Brothers held

PTI reports:

The Punjab police today arrested two brothers of Mr. Kohli, Amrit Pal Kohli and Ishtpreet Singh Kohli for allegedly sheltering and harbouring him when he was on the run from law.
