Chitoor's good run continues

HYDERABAD, JULY 27. Chittoor's impressive run continued with yet another comfortable 3-1 win over Guntur in the first Andhra inter-district super league hockey championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here today.

Striker Ramesh put Chittoor ahead in the 19th minute through a field goal. In the second session, winger Vinod Raj was on target to make it 2-0 for Chittoor. Though Kranti Kumar reduced the margin for Guntur, capitalising on a melee after a penalty-corner was awarded to his team in the 61st minute, Choudhary Babu in a splendid counter-attack come up with a fine reverse hit from the top of the `D' within a minute to find the target.

In all, Chittoor earned five penalty-corners while the rivals nine.

In another match,Visakhapatnam defeated Cuddapah 2-1 after the two teams were locked goalless at the break.

Striker Satyanarayana latched on to a neat pass from Satya Mahesh to find the target for Vizag in the 60th minute. Within four minutes, Satya Mahesh was himself in the scoring act through a fine field goal.

Though Paul Moses reduced the margin through a penalty-corner conversion in the 66th minute for Cuddapah, it came a bit too late as the opponents emerged winners.Vizag earned eight penalty-corners while Cuddapah three.
