Cuddapah
By Our Staff Reporter
CUDDAPAH, JULY 27. The Cuddapah Superintendent of Police, V.C. Sajjanar, on Tuesday warned of stringent action against organisers of matka, which was driving the middle classes and labourers into financial doldrums and called for public cooperation in the endeavour.
Poster released
He released a poster titled `Cheyee cheyee kalupudam - matka mahammarini tharimedham' (join hands to drive away the cancerous matka), at Ramanappa Satram school in Pulivendula today and handed over the first poster to the Cuddapah MP, Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy, who was the chief guest. The MP urged the people not to fall prey to matka and other vices, but lead decent lives by undergoing reformation.
Tempted by easy money
The SP asked the poor sections and middle classes people not to `day-dream' of becoming rich overnight by playing matka, which offered Rs. 80 in return for Re.1. The lure of earning easy money was shattering the lives of poor sections and middle class people, he observed. He urged the parents to ensure that students did not fall prey to the vice. He warned of stern action against matka organisers if any person gave information to the police on the toll-free phone No. 1090. Mr. Sajjanar also urged the people to be wary of the growing white-collar offences, unauthorised finance and chit funds, multi-level marketing schemes and offers of lucrative jobs. The school headmaster, Veera Raghava Reddy, school committee chairman, Sivaprasada Reddy, Rotary Club member, Nageswara Reddy, Pulivendula Circle Inspector, Rajeswara Reddy, and SIs -- Satyanarayana, Vinod Kumar, Ramakanth and Bhaskar Reddy -- participated.
