Guntur
By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, JULY 27. The bandh call given by the farmers in the Krishna delta region had a mixed response in Bapatla town on Tuesday. The Federation of Farmers' Associations led by the Telugu Desam Patry and the Bharatiya Janata Party, organised the bandh, by stopping a few R.T.C buses and closing some shops for a couple of hours in the morning. The former TDP MPs, Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, Yedlapati Venkata Rao, the former Minister, Alapati Rajendra Prasad, and the former Bapatla MLA, Manthena Anantha Verma, participated in the dharna in front of the Mandal Revenue Office seeking immediate release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Project for the Krishna western delta. Some Government schools were closed, but offices functioned as usual. All the commercial banks were open and traffic on the roads was normal though slight thin for some time.
