Double for Aparna, Sankar

KOZHIKODE, JULY 27. National junior No. 1 Aparna Balan and Sankar P. Gopan emerged the under-19 singles champions in the Savitri Devi memorial all-Kerala junior ranking badminton tournament at the V.K. Krishna Menon Indoor Stadium here on Tuesday. The two took the doubles titles as well.

Aparna made short work of M. Sruthi in the girls' final, 11-4, 11-2, while Sankar faced stiff resistance from Arjun Prasad in the boys' final before winning 11-15, 15-8, 15-2.

Boys under-19 doubles (final): Arjun Prasad & Sankar P. Gopan bt Nithin Rahman & Arun Vishnu 15-13, 15-8.

Boys under-16 (final): Singles: Arun Vishnu bt Ram C. Vijay 15-12, 15-8. Doubles (final): Ram C. Vijay & Arun Vishnu bt Akhil M. Rasheed & Mithilesh Sundar 15-9, 15-7.

Boys under-13 (final): H.S. Pranoy bt Murali Krishnan 15-7, 15-2.

Girls under-19 singles: Final: Aparna Balan bt M. Sruthi 11-4, 11-2. Semifinals: Aparna bt Archana Moses 11-3, 11-2. Sruthi bt Miral George 11-7, 11-7.

Girls under-19 doubles (final): Aparna & Suma Suresh bt Sruthi & Miral George 15-12, 3-15, 15-11.
