CHENGALPATTU, JULY 27. Elaborate arrangements are being made at the Vedagireeswarar temple, Thirukazhukundram near here, to organise `laksha deepam' (lighting of one lakh lamps) on August 20, as part of the `sangutheertha pushkaram' festival celebrated once in 12 years. The transit of `guru' from `simha rasi' to `kanni rasi' is observed as a `pushkaram' an auspicious day to take a holy dip at the Sangutheertham at Thirukazhukundram. This year `guru' moves from `simha rasi' to `kanni rasi' on August 19 midnight. At a press conference, the chairman of `laksha deepam' festival committee and former MLA, S.T. Varadarajan, said arrangements have been made for the conduct of homams and pujas in the temple situated at the foot of the hill from August 17 and `theerthavari' between 11 p.m. and midnight on August 19 at the Sangutheertham tank.
