HYDERABD, JULY 27. A full-fledged board will be in place for the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) by August 15, it is learnt. The HUDA, which was without a Chairman after Teegala Krishna Reddy was elected Mayor, got a new Chairperson last month when corporator, D. Sudheer Reddy, was handpicked by the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, to head it. The board (known as Authority) is constituted by the Government from time to time. The 15-member board consists of a Chairman, Vice-Chairman, official members representing the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, Town and Country Planning Department, Finance Department, non-official members representing local municipal bodies and legislators and experts of different disciplines.
UDA functions
While the main function of any Urban Development Authority is preparation and revision of master and zonal development plans, control and regulation of development, planning of projects for development of the area under its jurisdiction and coordination with local bodies, the presence of people's representatives is deemed necessary to reflect the views of public along with the advice of experts and professionals in the decision of the board, says Mr. Sudheer Reddy.
