Kochi
By Our Staff Reporter
KOCHI, JULY 28. The Ombudsman for Local Self-Government Institutions, K.P. Radhakrishna Menon, in an interim order, today asked the Kochi Mayor and the Deputy Mayor to appear in person to express their views with regard to the case of the median built on the Sahodaran Ayyappan Road. The hearing has been posted to August 7. The order says that in case the Mayor or Deputy Mayor is not present, the Ombudsman's Forum will be taking a decision on whether the median should be demolished. It asks why the Mayor has rejected the protests against the construction of the median which is causing severe traffic snarls in the city. In case demolition of the median is ordered, which authority or official apart from the Mayor should be made accountable for the construction cost which is a waste of Corporation fund, the order asks. The Ombudsman issued the interim order based on the traffic police's report that the median on the road from the Muttath Lane Junction to the Cheruparambath Junction was constructed in an unscientific manner without widening the road.
Dump yard issue
In another case regarding the City Corporation dump yard at Cheranelloor, the Ombudsman has asked the Action Council of Cheranelloor Residents Against the Garbage Dumping Yard to wait till July 30 for the Corporation to find another location for dumping garbage.
