Bharti demand rejected
NEW DELHI,
JULY 28.
In a major setback to Sunil Mittal promoted Bharti group, the Government has turned down the company's demand for refund of Rs. 145 crores for surrendering four basic licences.
The Department of Telecom (DoT) has stated that as per the licence terms and conditions, the entry free was non-refundable while surrendering the licence under any circumstances. When contacted, D. P. S. Seth, Member, TRAI, told PTI "We had stated that as far as surrender of licence is concerned pursuant to the Unified Access Service Licence regime, the entire issue needs to be examined in the context of spectrum policy because it relates to surrender of spectrum too.''
