HYDERABAD, JULY 28. The former Asifnagar MLA, D. Nagender, today formally joined the Congress by marching to Gandhi Bhavan here on Wednesday morning.

He was received at the APCC headquarters by the party treasurer, D. Vithal Rao, on behalf of the president, D. Srinivas. He later called on the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on the Assembly premises.

Mr. Nagender, who resigned from the Telugu Desam Party and quit his Assembly membership as well, had for all practical purposes joined the Congress last week when he met the AICC president, Sonia Gandhi, and other important party leaders in New Delhi.

He has been explaining to all these leaders that he was a sincere Congressmen but was forced to quit the party when certain forces tried to deny him the Assembly ticket though he was elected twice Mr. Nagender, who won the election by a rather narrow margin of 3,700 votes over his MIM rival, told reporters that he would not press the party high command for the ticket in the ensuing byelection. At the same time, he would not be found wanting if the party wanted him to contest, he added.
