AT A national seminar on "Enhancing competitiveness of Indian B-schools with international benchmarking" organised here by the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (XIME), P.N. Razdan, adviser to the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) enlisted the criteria adopted to accredit business schools. The National Board of Accreditation (NBA), he said, looked at an institution's mission, goals, organisation and governance, allotting 80 marks under this category. The other categories were financial and physical resources and utilisation (100 marks); academic performance indices, faculty and staff (150); students (100); teaching learning process (200); supplementary process (50); industry-institute interaction (100); research (120); innovation (50) and contribution to the community (50 marks). Dr. Razdan said NBA was not a faultfinding team but part of a mechanism to facilitate quality education. "We want to improve the quality of the institutes, identifying their strengths and weaknesses," he said. He regretted that only 65 of the 1,000-odd management institutes in the country had come forward for accreditation.
FIVE TOP institutes in the country XIMB, NMIMS Mumbai, TAPMI Manipal, Welingkar Institute Mumbai, and XIME Bangalore have come together to form a consortium to work collaboratively and collectively to enhance the quality of management education. The association is called the "Consortium of Autonomous Business Schools". The consortium will work towards faculty exchange; students exchange; sharing of faculty resources, particularly of visiting faculty from abroad, collaborated research, publications and case development; and student fests.
