Cops launch helpline for women

GUNTUR, JULY 29. The Guntur police on Thursday launched a round-the-clock helpline for women.

Sirisha, a victim in a dowry harassment case, formally handed over the cell phone to the new woman Sub-Inspector of Police recruited for the purpose. The S.I. can be contacted by women in distress on telephone No. 9849900382, the Superintendent of Police, Ravi Shankar Ayyannar, said. The Joint Collector, Janardhana Reddy, handed over the keys of a jeep, specially meant for the Women's Cell, to the SI during a one-day workshop on `Crime against women'.

The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Anjani Kumar, released a 100-page bi-lingual book `Policulu Meeru' which explains in detail the various laws relating to women.

An informative book on all aspects of crime against women and the ways and means to approach police and judiciary, was distributed among the participants.

An exhibition of paintings by a woman lecturer, Parvathi, was also displayed on the occasion.
