MUMBAI, JULY 29. Bombay Gymkhana's tryst with ladies' snooker continues. Cygnus, a brand of the Laxmi diamond group, a leading exporter of polished diamonds, has underwritten the prize money for the tournament Rs. 36,000 and its CEO Shekar Wadke announced that jewellery would be presented to the winner and runner-up of the event to be held from August 2 to 7. Familiar names in women's snooker, the Thakur sisters, Anuja (National billiards champion) and Meenal (National snooker champion) lead the 30-player card. Regulars like Karnataka's Chitra Magimairaj and R. Umadevi, Rajasthan's Pooja Galundia, Tamil Nadu's Vidya Pillai and 71-year-old Kamala Chandra Babu also figure in the draw. Twelve entries have been received from players based in Mumbai, five from Madhya Pradesh, four each from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, two from Andhra Pradesh and one each from Pune, Kolkata and Rajasthan. The winner stands to gain Rs. 12,000, the runner-up Rs. 8,000, the losing semifinalists Rs. 3,750 and the losing quarterfinalists Rs. 1,750. The player who registers the highest break (over 50) will receive Rs. 1,500. The Gymkhana has roped in seven-time World billiards champion Geet Sethi and Merchant to conduct a clinic for the participants. Our Special Correspondent
