CHENNAI, JULY 29. The Government has written to the Railways to give permission to build a total of six overbridges/causeways across railway crossings in its plan for 2004-05. A reply from the Railway authorities was awaited, the Local Administration Minister, K.P. Anbazhagan informed the Assembly today. These, along with the Harrington Road subway, for which the Railways has granted permission, would cost Rs. 66 crores, he added.
Permission sought
Replying to a question from P.K. Sekar Babu, (All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam), he said permission had been sought for overbridges at Rangarajapuram, Villivakkam (level crossing gate 1) and across the tracks connecting Kathivakkam and Cocraine Basin. Subways have been planned for Villivakkam (level crossing gate 2), MC Road and Korukkupet. The Minister said the Chennai Corporation had written to the Railways seeking its approval and had requested it to expedite the matter. The Corporation was talking all steps to ensure that the projects were cleared at an early date.
