HYDERABAD, JULY 30. The Congress Rajya Sabha member, V. Hanumantha Rao, has demanded the arrest of the BJP national president, M. Venkaiah Naidu, accusing him of grabbing land belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in Nellore and encroaching it for 24 years. Mr. Hanumantha Rao told presspersons on Friday that Mr.Venkaiah Naidu surrendered the land to the district authorities following an exposure in newspapers on August 17, 2002. The then Collector of Nellore, Anantharamulu, revealed this on August 21, 2002. Referring to the statement of Mr.Naidu in this regard, Mr.Rao said the former's act of surrendering five acres of land to the authorities after the exposure proved beyond doubt that he forcefully occupied the land belonging to weaker sections. In fact the land grabbing was to the extent of 30 acres, he said. Mere surrender of the land would not absolve him of the crime committed, he said. He alleged that the State BJP president, N.Indrasena Reddy, too had grabbed land illegally on the outskirts of Hyderabad city during the previous regime.
