BANGALORE, JULY 31. A city court has acquitted a senior official of All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) of the charge of abusing a colleague by making derogatory references to his caste. On December 2, 1999, a programme executive of Bangalore DD lodged a complaint with the J.C. Nagar police alleging that Mahesh Joshi, Executive Producer, had abused him by making references to his caste. The police had registered booked cases against Mr. Joshi under the Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 and Section 506 of IPC. On February 1, 2000, a chargesheet against Mr. Joshi was filed before the Special Judge for SC/ST cases. However, the programme assistant retracted his statement and claimed that he had filed a false case against Mr. Joshi at the behest of some of his colleagues.
