BANGALORE, JULY 31. K.V. Raju, Professor and Head of the Ecological Economics Unit, Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, has said that integrated water resources management has become the global buzzword. Speaking at a workshop on "Water journalism" organised here by Charkha - Communication for Development and Learning (CDL), he said management of water resources had become important. The allocation for irrigation had come down substantially over the years since other sectors demanded attention, he said. He said 67 per cent of the geographical base was with the Krishna belt. But 65 five per cent of the State's poverty was seen there. Newspapers should focus on such issues, he noted. The water rights issue had conflicting demands from domestic and agricultural perspectives. Conservation of water and rainwater harvesting were not done to the desirable extent, Prof. Raju said.
