For a slice of India in London

By Hasan Suroor

LONDON, JULY 31. Come August 15, and a corner of London will reverberate with the sound of Indian classical and folk music. The London Mela, the outcome of a friendship agreement signed between the Mayor of London and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit two years ago, is billed as the biggest festival of Indian music and dance outside the subcontinent.

Musicians, dancers, singers and ``qawwals'' are flying in from India for the event on Independence Day. It is expected to attract some 60,000 people.
