ERODE, JULY 31. Four stone inscriptions on the freedom fighter Deeran Chinnamalai were unearthed in four different places. Informing this today, the founder of Kongu Research Centre, Erode, Pulavar S. Rasu, said that Deeran Chinnamalai was born on April 17, 1756, in Melapalayam, Erode district. He was hanged by the British at Sankari Fort on August 2, 1805 (the Adi 18th). Stone inscriptions on him were unearthed at Kadaiyur, Pattani, Goundenpalayam and Sivanmalai (all in Erode district). In the inscriptions were mentioned the donations of lands made by Deeran Chinnamalai to temples and the poor. Further, the details of Deeran Chinnamalai alias Theerthagiri and his family were also mentioned.
Memorial day
Meanwhile, on behalf of the State Government, the Deeran Chinnamalai Memorial Day would be observed on August 2 in Odanilai village near Arachalure. In the function the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister, P.C. Ramasamy, the Information Minister K.P. Anbazhazgan, and the District Collector, D. Karthikeyan, would participate.
