Kollam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOLLAM, JULY 31. The Kollam City Corporation has finalised a comprehensive programme to keep the city clean. At a press conference here today the Deputy Mayor, G. Jayapalan Pillai, said the programme would be backed by strict measures to ensure it is carried forward effectively. A ban on plastic bags with 30 micron and above within the city limits comes into effect from August 1. He said as part of the programme the roadsides of the two National Highways passing through the city and the by pass of National Highway 47 would be maintained as garbage free zones. No dumping of garbage would be permitted along these roads. The number of authorised garbage dumping points in the city would be reduced to 50. Garbage dumping has been banned around the Asramam Maidan, which was recently developed with a walkway around it. The existing garbage dumps there would be removed.
