PATHANAMTHITTA, JULY 31. The Transport Commissioner, K. P. Somarajan, today said a three-member team comprising the Regional Transport Officer, Syed Muhammed, and the Motor Vehicle Inspectors, Reji M. Varghese and Thulaseedharan Pillai, would inquire into the technical aspects of the fire outbreak in the bus owned by the Kerala State Transport Corporation (KSRTC) at Variyapuram near here on Friday. Mr. Somarajan was talking to reporters after inspecting the site of fire mishap and the vehicle at Variyapuram. One passenger was killed and 40 others sustained burns in the accident. Mr. Somarajan said the Transport Minister had directed the KSRTC to give Rs. 500 to Rs. 1,000 as medical expenses to those who have been hospitalised. The District Superintendent of Police, T. Chandran, also accompanied the Transport Commissioner.
Driver suspended
Meanwhile, the KSRTC managing director, K. Appukkuttan Nair, has said that the driver of the KSRTC bus, K. P. Natarajan, has been placed under suspension, pending inquiry, following the accident.
