PATHANAMTHITTA, JULY 31. The Minister for Information and Parliamentary Affairs, M. M. Hassan, has stressed the need to promote investment in the State by overseas Keralites. The Minister was addressing a Global Family Investment Meet of Non-Resident Keralites organised by the Doha chapter of the Friends of Thiruvalla (FOTA) at the Travancore Club in Thiruvalla today. Mr. Hassan called for creating an investment-friendly climate with the co-operation of various political parties and departments is the prime requisite for investment promotion in Kerala. He said the department of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs (NoRKA) has organised an exhibition in Kochi as part of its investment promotion venture in early August. Mr. Hassan said the Global Family Investment Meet of FOTA should be a model to the rest of the country. The Minister has also assured all help from the NoRKA for speedy clearance for various investment proposals from the FOTA members. The former Union Minister, P. J. Kurien, stressed the need for developing the essential thing of entrepreneurship among the Keralites. Prof. Kurien said Kerala has got immense investment potential in the fields of education, Ayurveda, tourism and medical sector. Easy access to modern technologies anywhere in the world was the advantage of globalisation, he added. The Global Meet convenor, Shaji Thenmadom, the KSIDC deputy general manager, Binil Kumar, and K.C.G. Varghese of the Hindustan Group of Institutions, Chennai, among others spoke. The Revenue Minister, K. M. Mani, inaugurated the valedictory meeting later in the afternoon. The municipal chairman, Raju Mundamattom, presided. The Rural Development Minister, C. F. Thomas, and the Peringara grama panchayat president, Sam Eapen, spoke.
