A must see Fair

Curtains come down today for one of the biggest IT shows in the town to have come in recent times. COMP-EX 2004 is gearing itself for the final round of unlimited action at Jayaram Thirumana Nilayam in Pondicherry. The last two days witnessed crowds spending considerable time in the stalls to catch up with the latest technology in the IT industry. Nevertheless, it's a marriage of sorts as one could even buy a low cost instrument for checking glucose level in the body or simply check for glucose level or buy a piece of furniture or a dome shaped music system that can be connected to a MP3 player. The only place where you can sit and enjoy is at the hotspot holding digital party. A word of caution - a lady host (or a digital jockey ?!) is there to rake up your brains posing a challenge to the students at digital party. In the scheme of things you find a whole new mind-boggling experience waiting for you.

Take a peek at the CAD stall. You get to know why CAD is creating a big revolution in the civil engineering department. A 3D model using CAD would make you walk through the animation of interiors designed, notes Mr. K.A. Prabhakar, Director of CADD Centre. The CAD stall displays a wide range of products used in different applications. Interestingly the IT fair also has audio-visual communication products like interactive touch screen which on white board works in dual mode.

Using a projector it is a touch screen. Finger acts as a mouse and you can also draw or write on the board.

Ebeams, OHPs, display boards for corporates and educational institutions and visualizers (document cameras) are a big draw at the expo.

Says Mr. R. Ganga Sekaran of Can-Tec that he has booked a couple of orders for OHPs. A doctor from Villipuram and a drug company have booked OHPs , he confides. Mr. T. K.P. Arumugam who has a stall in the fair dealing in computers and peripherals says that business is generally good at the fair and he sold a laptop yesterday to a visitor from Vellore. Play the number game there you have the Tecnologiics stall at the expo that offers software solutions and related services. Its easy to use inventory control software appended with accounts application is intended for medical retailers and pharmaceutical distributors.

Other products of Technologiics are inventory and accounts maintenance software, software for power loom textiles for designing, financial accounting software and a software for billing process in hotels, shops, kiosks etc.

Stalls also display basic telephones, caller IDs, Xerox machines, computer furniture, Sify broad band internet connections, Biz card finder, PC notes taker, quick link scan pen, and other office equipment. PC notes taker allows creating and saving of handwritten notes/memos in any languages and quick link scan pen transfers text from newspaper articles, books, magazines all without typing is something unique at the fair. There are also stalls having cost effective inverters for using during power failure to run domestic appliances. COMP-EX 2004 has a medley mixing business and entertainment in equal measure. The must-see fair ends at 9 pm today.
