Anantapur
By Our Staff Reporter
ANANTAPUR, JULY 31. The issue pertaining to the chairpersonship of the Zilla Parishad is brewing further with each passing day. The ZPTC members of the TDP are learnt to have joined hands to scuttle any effort of the Chairperson, Jonna Suryanarayana, who was suspended from the party by the TDP leadership on July 28, to take charge again.
Entry to be prevented
The TDP members have reportedly decided to visit the ZP office everyday in groups to prevent Mr. Suryanarayana from entering the premises. The vice-chairperson, Ch. Obi Reddy, assumed charge as Chairperson in charge on July 28 as per provisions of the Panchayat Raj Act. Mr. Suryanarayana had gone on leave from July 11 for 15 days and did not return on July 26 after his leave expired. In between, he met the party leadership in Hyderabad and assured to quit once he returned to Anantapur. He had, in fact, faxed his resignation to the District Collector, Y.V. Anuradha, on July 17, which was rejected as per the provisions of the PR Act. He was asked to submit his papers in person, which he agreed to do so on July 26. The party had suspended him for failing to quit on July 26.The problem began early this month when he tried to take the signatures of the party's ZPTC members for moving a no-confidence motion to pre-empt efforts of some partymen to remove him, and ensure a problem-free tenure for the remaining two years.
