CMO moves into fast lane

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 31. The Chief Minister's Office, which was partly e-connected all these days, is now undergoing 100 per cent automation to facilitate speedy disposal of work.

According to the deputy secretary in the CMO, Luv Agarwal, the web-enabled applications being evolved in the peshi would soon reduce manual involvement that usually leads to abnormal delays in file disposal.

Petitions pile up

The number of petitions the Chief Minister, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, receives daily have crossed the 3,000 mark. But, lack of a proper file disposal and tracking mechanism has been delaying the processing of these applications.

The attempt is to link all heads of the departments, Collectorates, public representatives and district-level HoDs. Mr. Agarwal's office has created about 1,000 new e-mail IDs for the officials and MLAs so that they can be informed about the status of the petitions. The petitioner will also be informed of the progress.

The new programme enables the CMO to acknowledge the petitioner and process the plea to the departments concerned. This apart, information would be passed on to the public through fax and SMS. Mr. Agarwal added that a help-desk was also installed in his office for the petitioners' benefit. Though the language being used now in the letters and intimations was English, Telugu would replace it soon, he said.

Close monitoring

The functioning of all departments and Collectorates will be closely monitored once the programme is fully evolved, which is likely by August end. The CMO is also planning to send regular reminders to the Collectors and the heads of departments to keep them on their toes. "The Chief Minister is very strict on this count. There will be no room for complacency in delivering the goods," Mr. Agarwal adds.
