Officials told to seize bogus ration cards

CHITRADURGA, JULY 31. M.A. Sadiq, Deputy Commissioner of Chitradurga, has instructed officers of the Revenue Department to seize bogus ration cards and ensure the distribution of Kisan Credit Cards to deserving farmers in the district.

Chairing a meeting of revenue officers of the district here on Friday, he reviewed the progress of various government programmes in the district. "There are 136 branches of various banks in the district. Each branch has to adopt one village and ensure that every eligible beneficiary receives the Kisan Credit Card. Bank officers and Revenue officers should hold meetings in every village to select the beneficiaries for the card, he said.

He also said that some undeserving people had been given ration cards and that was why those eligible had been deprived of the facility. Mr. Sadiq ordered a survey of ration cards and to seize bogus cards within one month.

Taking exception to the shortfall in land revenue collection, he directed the officers to collect land revenue from the people at the earliest, giving enough time only to the poor. Only Rs. 4.75 lakhs had been collected as against the target of Rs. 34.11 lakhs, he noted.

He directed the tahsildars to hold the "Janaspandana" programme at every hobli to address the problems of the area. The schedule for the programmes at one hobli in each taluk was chalked out at the meeting.

The following are the dates and places for the Janaspandana programme: Hireguntanur in Chitradurga taluk, August 17; Talaku in Challakere taluk, August 20; Dharmapura in Hiriyur taluk, August 21; Ramagiri in Holalkere taluk, August 22; Srirampura in Hosadurga taluk, August 24; and B.G. Kere in Molakalmuru taluk, August 25.
