Bellary
By Our Staff Correspondent
BELLARY, JULY 31. The non-availability of drinking water and the practise of writing prescriptions when adequate stock of medicines were was not available were the major problems that caught the attention of Sudharani, Vice-President of the zilla panchayat, during her visit to the 50-bed Government Hospital at Sirguppa town on Friday. Ms. Sudharani was shocked to hear that in-patients, including women admitted for post-natal care, were not being provided drinking water. Dr. Annigeri, Medical Officer, informed her that he had corresponded with the District Health Officer regarding the water problem, but no action had been initiated. However, the Medical Officer failed to give copies of the correspondence, she said in a statement today. Ms. Sudharani also found that despite a shortage in the stock of medicines, doctors had been prescribing medicines, leaving patients to source them from outside the hospital.
