Spurious lubricants seized, three held

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JULY 31. Three persons have been arrested by the North-East Delhi police for allegedly manufacturing and selling spurious lubricants under a popular brand name. Huge quantities of spurious lubricants, which were mostly sold in neighbouring Ghaziabad, were recovered from their hideout.

According to the police, Sub-Inspector Partap Singh of Mansarovar Park got a tip-off about a racket being run from a house in D-Block, Ashok Nagar, in Mansarovar Park on Friday. Constable Gavender was sent as a decoy. He managed to strike a deal for a half-litre oil pouch -- which actually cost Rs. 64 -- at Rs. 50. Following the deal, the waiting police team nabbed all the three persons present at the spot. They have been identified as Naveen alias Bobby (28), Shyam Lal (30) and Ram Pal alias Guddu (19). While Naveen is a resident of Shahdara, the other two are residents of Ghaziabad in U.P.

The police recovered 96 plastic cans of five litres each, 22 plastic cans of 3.5 litres each, 380 one-litre oil pouches, 450 pouches of grease, 70 pouches engine oil (packaged in the name of a major oil company), a pouch making machine and some other equipment from the hideout.

During interrogation, Naveen told the police that he had been running the racket in order to earn easy and quick money. He had started the "business" recently, the police said.

Naveen used to procure the raw materials from various places at Ghaziabad. The "product" was then neatly packaged and sold mostly in Ghaziabad at low prices.

Naveen had earlier been arrested in 1999 by the Gokulpuri police in North-East Delhi for a similar offence.

While Naveen is high school dropout, the other two are illiterate and were working as labourers. Further investigations in the case are on.
