BANGALORE, JULY 31. The 89 fast-track courts constituted in the State in the past few years have not all been functioning as they should. According to the Federation of Bar Associations in Karnataka, public prosecutors have not been appointed to at least 44 such courts by the Government. The federation president, K.N. Subba Reddy, who earlier submitted a memorandum in this regard to the Governor, T.N. Chaturvedi, told presspersons that there was no appreciable difference in the pace of work in the fast-track courts compared with the regular courts, and in some cases it was even worse because there were no public prosecutors. The federation has represented to the Governor that construction work or repairs to court buildings in many parts of the State have come to a standstill. A list of 17 such court buildings was attached to the memorandum.
