SIRSI, JULY 31. A team from the Central Pollution Control Board is on a visit to Dandeli in Uttara Kannada to study the damage caused to the Kali by the discharge of effluents from the Dandeli Paper Factory. The team, which came to Dandeli on July 27, will stay for a week to study the effects of the discharge of effluents into the river and its impact on the villages on the banks of the Kali. The team is headed by Ansari, according to a press release issued by the Kali Bachao Andolan. The andolan members met the Board members in Dandeli on July 27 and 28 and took them to Kariumpali and Harnoda on the banks of the Kali to study the effects the contamination of the river has had on the villages. The team members discussed the matter with the villagers, the release says. Gopalkrishna of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board is also with the team, the release adds.
