ALAPPUZHA, JULY 31. The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, will inaugurate the newly constructed two blocks of the Alappuzha Medical College Hospital (MCH) at Vandanam on August 13 at 6 p.m., D. Sugathan, MLA, has said. The Health Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, would preside over the function. The two blocks have a capacity of 120 beds. Following the inauguration, the paediatrics ward functioning in the old building at the MCH would be shifted to Vandanam, Mr. Sugathan said. He said the construction of new buildings for shifting the Medical College Hospital from its present site to the Vandanam campus, which is about 10 km away, would be completed in two years. The estimated cost of the construction is around Rs. 150 crores. Mr. Sugathan said the construction work was progressing well. The work on the surgical ward would be completed soon and the gynaecology department would be shifted after that. Construction of the buildings for the out-patient wing would also be completed soon, he said.
