PALAKKAD, JULY 31. The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president, Thennala Balakrishna Pillai, has said that he will take the problems of paddy farmers in Palakkad district up with the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony. Talking to presspersons at the District Congress Committee office here today, the KPCC chief said the Government should take steps to ameliorate the sufferings of farmers in the State. Asked about the promise made by the Chief Minister to the farmers of Chittur in March this year that a special package would be announced for them, the Congress leader said he would take the matter up with Mr. Antony and see that some relief was provided to them. (The State Government on Friday announced a special package for farmers in Wayanad district, under which it would undertake direct procurement of pepper, coffee and areca nut from the farmers to support falling prices.) He said the party would be reorganised at the Assembly constituency, block and ward levels on the lines of the reorganisation of the KPCC. Asked about a total reshuffle of the United Democratic Front Ministry, he said the reshuffle of the Congress Ministers would be decided by the party high command. The KPCC chief was here to attend a meeting of office-bearers of the party in the district. He was accompanied by the KPCC general secretary, Mullappally Ramachandran, among others.
