KOLLAM, JULY 31. The RSP general secretary, K. Pankajakshan, said here today that it is hypocritical of the UDF Government to express remorse when its `anti-people' policies boomerang. He was inaugurating the delegates session of the State conference of the Progressive Students Union (PSU). He said that in spite of strong opposition to the `anti-people' policies of the UDF Government, the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, carried it forward. Expression of remorse without any sincerity will serve no purpose, he said. The main agenda of the UDF Government appears to be the commercialisation of the education sector. The engineering college student, Rajani S. Anand, who committed suicide is a martyr of such a policy. Even private managements, who failed to show the stipulated land area for starting professional colleges, were given sanction. He alleged that even when the issue of the self-financing profession colleges went to the Supreme Court, the State Government had taken a stand in favour of the private management and this could be a reason why the verdict went in favour of the private managements. The UDF Government had even gone to the extent of slashing the benefits extended to the students from the Scheduled Communities. The PSU State president, C.P. Sudheesh Kumar, presided over the function.
