THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JULY 31. Arrangements should be made on a war footing to provide better facilities for Sabarimala pilgrims, the Chief Minister, A. K. Antony, has said. He was speaking at a meeting called at the Thycaud Guest House here on Saturday to review the works to be completed by various departments before the start of the Sabarimala pilgrimage. The Chief Minister, while expressing satisfaction at the facilities that were provided to pilgrims at Sabarimala last season, said that the Devaswom Board and various departments should work in close coordination to provide better arrangements this year.
Roads to be tarred
The roads leading to Pampa from different centres would be tarred in advance and adequate number of KSRTC buses arranged for transport. Parking facilities and arrangements for maintenance works for buses are also being organised. More doctors would be deployed in the hospitals in the area. Dollies would be available at Pampa, Appachimedu and Sannidhanam. Extra beds are being arranged at all medical centres. Drinking water supply, sanitation activities and police service would be strengthened. More public toilets would be set up and the cooperation of voluntary organisations would be sought in providing better service to pilgrims. The meeting also decided to seek the Centre's sanction to construct permanent barricades on either side of the Chandranan road. The Health Minister, Kadavoor Sivadasan, the Finance Minister, K. Sankaranarayanan, the Culture Minister, G. Karthikeyan, the Public Works Minister, M. K. Muneer, the Forest Minister, K. Sudhakaran, the Chief Secretary, Babu Jacob, the Devaswom Board president, N. Babu, the DGP, the District Collectors of Kottayam and Pathanamthitta, among others, took part in the meeting.
