Temperature

MADURAI, JULY 31. The city today registered a maximum temperature of 38.2 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 25.6 degrees Celsius.

Water level

The level in the Periyar dam stood at 116.60 feet with an inflow was 496 cusecs and a discharge of 900 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 38.19 feet with an inflow of 564 cusecs and a discharge of 930 cusecs. The combined Periyar storage was 2746 mcft.

Thaniyamangalam received a rainfall of 17 mm, followed by Idayapatti - 14.2, Melur - 13 and Periyar dam - 5 mm.

Regulatory order

The city police Commissioner, Vijay Kumar, has promulgated an order regulating processions, demonstrations, meetings and assemblies for 15 days from today, under Section 41 of the Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 1888.

Those who want to organise processions and meetings should apply for permission five days in advance.

Killed in accident

A 32-year-old driver, Rajkumar, of Ettyapuram in Tuticorin district was killed on the spot, when his van rammed into a stationary lorry near Valayankulam near the Madurai airport last night.

The Perungudi police have registered a case.

Admissions

Spot admissions to various undergraduate, postgraduate and postgraduate diploma courses conducted by the Directorate of Distance Education of the Pondicherry University are currently under way at the Saraswathi Narayanan College.

The Madurai Electricity Distribution Circle has formed a Consumer Grievance Redressal Forum on July 26.
